Sales Staff

At Curbside our mission is to bring bicycles back to everyday riders. This means we have a strong focus on transportation, accessibility and inclusivity - and our sales-people share this vision. We're looking for friendly, experienced salespeople who can sell cycling as a healthy, joyful, fashionable lifestyle and not just a sport.

When you greet our customer and walk them through their bicycle purchase you are putting one new cyclist on the street. At Curbside, we live for this, and we want our customers to feel the excitement too. If you don't have any experience in a bike store, don't worry - we'll give you all the knowledge you need. You'll learn all about bikes that work for cities, bikes that can go on commuter trains, and bikes that can even carry a family. We believe that by importing the widest inclusion of products we can open up the widest inclusion of cyclists. That means we take the inclusivity of our staff very seriously too. Unlike many bike stores in town, Curbside is not an intimidating place, so please don't feel scared to apply!

Sales experience is not necessary, but certainly preferred, especially if you have experience in boutique retail (fashion, design, furniture, food, etc). Students in urban planning, architecture or an arts background are especially welcome. Curbside is a blisteringly busy place in Spring and Summer, so you need to be able to multi-task multiple customers while staying attentive to each customer's needs.

Please note that we will ask for a single day to one week (paid) trial period so we can assess your skills and fit into the team.

Shipping Staff

Curbside may seem like a quiet little store on Bloor Street, but our online store constitutes nearly 50% of all our sales, and we send a lot of stuff outside of Toronto!

What do we send? Well, we admit that we can be rather ambitious at times. For instance, our Ride Out Of The Box service packages up complete bikes - including massive cargo bikes! - and ships them all over North America.

But mostly we ship out small packages. You'll be picking stuff, packing stuff, and sending stuff out. You'll be learning about products, best practices for shipping, and even some stuff about customs and duties. It's pretty fun!

This job is pretty action-packed. You'll be running around between all of our four floors grabbing stuff and shipping stuff. It's a workout! You'll also be lifting some pretty heavy boxes from time to time, so you need to be able to lift at least 50lb.

Experience with shipping isn't necessary but you must be able to work under pressure and be highly detailed oriented. Proper shipping requires a person who knows how to dot the "i"'s and cross the "t"'s. If that sounds like you, then please apply!

Please note that we will ask for a single day to one week (paid) trial period so we can assess your skills and fit into the team.

Mechanics

To keep our customers on the road we need a group of qualified service staff who take quality repairs seriously. Our mechanics are a diverse bunch who might also fix the most diverse array of bikes in the country! In one day you might work on a highly propriatary Brompton folding bike, doing diagnostics on a Bosch electric assist bike, tuning the steering mechanisms of a Dutch cargo bike - and fixing lots of regular bikes in between. Of course, this all depends on your skill level. You'll also be doing lots of flat tires, assembly of new bikes and installing accessories on new bikes.

Who are we looking for? First of all: someone with experience. That could mean prior experience at a shop or working at local co-ops like Bike Pirates and Bike Chain. Second: someone who has strong diagnostic skills. In other words, someone who knows when it's best to fix or replace a part, and especially when to ask for help (humility is always rewarded!). Lastly, we need to take efficiency seriously. We can work to develop your speed through a process-approach to bike fixing, but you need to have the smarts, the skills, and most of all: the disposition.

We are presently hiring any or all levels of bike mechanic, but most needed is a mechanic who can start with simple jobs like bike assembly, flat tires, and accessory installation.
