CUSTOM BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

The great thing about the bikes we sell to our retail customers is that they are perfectly suited for businesses or organizations too. Because quality city bikes and cargo bikes need to be low-maintenance, weather-resistant and comfortable, they're perfect for your organization - or the clients you serve. If you're a business with delivery vans stuck in downtown gridlock you can reduce cost, increase efficiency and elevate the visibility of your brand with a cargo bike. If you're a business or organization that wants to offer bikes as a head-turning, value-added service then look no further than our city bike brands.

At Curbside (and also with our sister company Fourth Floor), we've been providing business solutions for small and large companies for over a decade. To our clients we offer volume discounted pricing, the option of custom cabinetry and graphic design, fully tuned-and-assembled shipping anywhere in North America, and, if in Toronto; fleet service and maintenance. We sell to daycares, coffee shops, food delivery companies, banks, boutique hotels, and many more. If you have a project in mind, we'd love to hear about it!

REDPATH SUGAR – TORONTO, ON

Brand Engagement Vehicle

The Initial Problem

Redpath Sugar is one of the defining structures on Toronto’s developing waterfront, an imposing factory that still receives ocean-going vessels who bring raw sugar-cane from the Caribbean. With new condo’s rising and architect-winning urban destinations like Sugar Beach across its dock, Redpath wanted to integrate its story and product into the emerging residential area and new bike path outside its gates.

Our Solution

We worked alongside Redpath and our in-house cabinetry expert to build a custom box for Redpath’s cargo bike that featured grab-and-go storage and option for a folding-leaf table-top. The bike, nicknamed “Bab’s” was part of Redpath’s highly engaging “Acts of Sweetness” campaign that visited locations across Toronto and Southern Ontario.

FOODORA - ACROSS CANADA

Brand Vehicle

The Initial Problem

With increasing competition, Foodora desired a series of personally engaging mobile billboards to intimately target demographics where they live/hang out, whether parks, city streets and events across Canada.

Our Solution

We suggested the Babboe Transporter with a vinyl wrap. We provided all specs on the box to Foodora's graphic designer and helped assemble and ship the final results to markets in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal

KRAVE JERKY - ACROSS CANADA

Brand Activation

The Initial Problem

Based in Sonoma, California - Krave makes culinary beef-jerky that is high in protein and uses no artificial ingredients. The kind of stuff we eat after a long bike ride! Krave wanted to put their product in front of an urban demographic who understand the symbolic value of a cargo bikes and who want to meet their brands customer face-to-face.

Our Solution

Krave worked with local talent - The Mint Agency - who worked with our team on a high-impact, unforgettable brand activation that could weave through both streets and parks, and events both indoor and outdoor. Timeline was of the essence here, but so was brand impact. We suggested a vinyl wrap (another great job by Wilcox Sign) and turned the whole project around in under two weeks!

COCA COLA (VITAMIN WATER) - CANADA'S WONDERLAND

Brand Activation

The Initial Problem

Canada's Wonderland is as close to Disneyland as it gets up here in the Great White North. There are Canadian-themed rides like the "Muskoka Plunge" and "Soaring Timbers" and no, not everyone wears flannel. But, everyone gets thirsty under the hot Ontario Sun and Coca Cola wanted a way to sell its Vitamin Water to thirsty patrons who need a quick on-the-fly refreshment.

Our Solution

Coca Cola approached our team early in the winter to get everything dialed in, although the turnaround was less than a week. We provided the bike and the box specs which they gave to their marketing team. The marketing team designed a great looking vinyl wrap that will certainly sell them a lot of Vitamin Water!

KICHISSIPPI BEER - OTTAWA

Brand Activation

The Initial Problem

Probably the most breathtaking example of where your imagination can take you. Kichissippi Beer is a great micro-brew out of Ottawa that wanted to take it's beer to the streets, whether that was weddings, events, or what-have-you.

Our Solution

We can only take credit for selling the bike here. Kichissippi worked with Tall Tree Cycles in Ottawa to design what must win the award for most innovative cargo bike ever. It's hard to even recognize this bike as a Babboe City. Featuring a real oak keg, custom CO2 canister, solid oak table with beer tap and a box in the back for glassware this only demonstrates that the sky is the limit.

SPACING MAGAZINE - TORONTO, ON

Mobile Retail

The Initial Problem

Spacing Magazine is a critically acclaimed Canadian magazine that focusses on urban infrastructure, architecture, and public space. Spacing needed a brand vehicle that could host events and visit events, a vehicle that visually demonstrated their urbanist values (and merchandise) in a compelling and inviting way.

Our Solution

One of our first clients, we helped develop a mobile retail kiosk that – using fold-out leafs – could double the width of a cargo bike and offer generous retail space. With cabinetry performed by an outside contractor, Spacing is the reason we moved to scalable inside contracting supported by Ride Out of the Box delivery.

WESTBANK INC - TORONTO, ON

Community Engagement

The Initial Problem

Westbank is a large, socially-engaged developer based in Vancouver BC whose properties include the Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver’s Woodward’s building, and many iconic commercial properties throughout North America. Westbank is currently working on developing Honest Ed’s - a Toronto landmark - into rental suites. The project is built on the theme of proximity and bicycling, and will feature a large bike-share program that renters are privileged to. Westbank wanted an engaged face-to-face brand vehicle that represented the values of the development and the corporation itself.

Our Solution

We consulted closely with Westbank on a beautiful vinyl-wrapped three-wheeled cargo bike that will attend events throughout Toronto’s Mirvish village, as well as events that support Toronto’s newest bike lane – which happens to be right outside the front door of the new development. Through our contacts we also supplied Westbank with a mobile repair station and commercial grade bike rack for their Urban Lab and showroom space.

TORONTO BOTANICAL GARDENS - TORONTO, ON

Brand vehicle and "botanical bar"

The Initial Problem

The Toronto Botanical gardens is a little-known gem outside of the downtown core that few downtowners go to (because few downtowners ever leave the downtown core!). So, the Toronto Botanical Gardens wanted to raise awareness by coming downtown. The problem is that Toronto is built on a gradual hill that tilts at a constant 2-4 degrees from the shores of Lake Ontario. With a population of nearly six million, Toronto is big and the climb back home wasn't exactly easy.

Our Solution

This was really fun. We spent some time consulting back and forth with the Toronto Botanical Gardens, asking questions about the space required as well as how to handle "the hill." In the end we decided on a Babboe E-Big, their 250W electric-assist version. With a referral to our vinyl decal supplier, their own graphic designer created a visual forest of die-cut leaves that make the Botanical bike a moving billboard. Today you can find the Botanical bike at many events, some where they serve their amazing botanical-infused cocktails. Yum!

HENDRIKS GIN - ACROSS CANADA

The "Cucumber Courier"

The Initial Problem

Wanting to build market-awareness in a fun and highly accessible way, Hendrik's wanted to tell the story of how their gin is different from others - since it is distilled with rose but most especially cucumber.

Our Solution

We were approached by Blake Jarrett - Hendrik's marketing company - to supply a cargo bike that the team would turn into a "cucumber courier." The bike was part of a larger marketing campaign that included a vintage truck and even a blimp - but the bike was one of the most successful ways to built proximity and approachability with the brand. A phenomenal success, with old-time costumes to boot.

FEAST INC - TORONTO, ON

Food Delivery

The Initial Problem

Feast is Toronto-based food-based tech start-up. Unlike Uber Eats or Foodora, where delivery time is lengthy due to cook-time, back-up and distance, Feast wanted to build a rotating menu – created by top chefs and ingredients – that is delivered to you in under 15 minutes. On one hand this required a special Feast app so customers could order with ease. On the other hand, it required a mobile hot-and-cold delivery system that could cut through gridlock and deliver food quickly, cheaply, and with maximum brand statement.

Our Solution

We sold Feast fifteen two-wheeled cargo bikes with a custom hot-and-cold insulated box designed and built by our cabinetry expert. Due to late-night and four-season deliveries, we made upgrades to the bikes including top-level Shimano roller brakes and a battery-free dynamo lighting system. Today the unmistakable Feast bikes are seen throughout town, a rolling billboard that literally delivers.

FOODY FIT - TORONTO, ON

Food Delivery

The Initial Problem

Foody Fit produces and delivers healthy food to the corporations in Toronto's tech alley and downtown business core. With an offsite kitchen nowhere near the delivery sites they needed a branding vehicle that could attract more business while conducting business.

Our Solution

We worked with Foody Fit to build two custom Babboe City bikes with lockable insulated boxes (note the beautiful wooden hot-plate) designed by our cabinetry contractor. Working with our graphic designer, we designed and placed the die-cut vinyl logos that create a professional, eye-catching statement.

BROTHERS FOOD & WINE - TORONTO, ON

Food Pick-up & Delivery

The Initial Problem

Brothers is one of the most talked-about new additions to Toronto's culinary scene. Started by two friends (one from Bar Ravel, the other Union), the focus is farm-to-table menu's with a locavore slant and a big focus on wine rather than cocktails. Brothers brings the west-end food scene right into the centre of Yorkville, and you can feel the subway underneath the building as you nosh. Brothers needed a low cost, highly efficient vehicle way to cut through gridlock. Bonus points if it could also be a brand vehicle too!

Our Solution

We explored nearly every avenue (custom box, vinyl-wrap,etc) with Brothers and finally realized that simpler is better, kind of like the restaurant itself. This is an out-of-the-box Babboe Transporter bike with no customization, and yet it's a showstopper. A simple sheep logo adorns the side, and when the bike is not in use, it becomes the best sandwich board you could ever imagine

NOT FAR FROM THE TREE - TORONTO, ON

Food Transport

The Initial Problem

Not Far From The Tree is a Toronto-based NGO that has – since 2008 – picked 127,679 pounds of fruit from homes whose trees bear more than home-owners need. Fruit is picked by volunteers and shared with Food Banks across the Greater Toronto Area. The organizers were seriously considering purchasing a van, but with multiple sites a single van wouldn’t be enough. Some simple math demonstrated that buying 15 cargo bikes would be the same price as one van and would not only be more effective, but hold truer to the organizations values.

Our Solution

We sold Not Far From The Tree x15 two wheeled cargo bikes. We worked closely with their branding team on logo placement and the highly visual vinyl decals that cover each bike. Most recently, due to a major hill and the diminutive size of most volunteers we added e-assists to two bikes. Today the bikes are seen everywhere around Toronto, loaded with apples, pears and apricots – a joyful sight for an organization whose mission is to give back and live sustainably.

CAMBRIDGE SUITES HOTEL - TORONTO, ON

Pick-up Vehicle and Fleet Bike program

The Initial Problem

The Cambridge Suites Hotel is a boutique hotel right in the middle of Toronto's most famous gridlock, a place that is great for cycling but terrible for driving. As a result, they wanted to give their clients a free rental bike with their stay (to enjoy the sights) but also needed a quick inexpensive way to pick up supplies without buying a van and sitting in traffic forever.

Our Solution

We supplied the Cambridge Suites Hotel with a stock out-of-the-box Babboe city that was made a very visually striking billboard for the hotel by some black paint and white die-cut vinyl lettering. This was a very simple project with rapid turnaround.

DRAKE HOTEL - TORONTO, ON

Fleet Bikes for Hotel Clients

The Initial Problem

The Drake Hotel is an institution on Toronto’s Queen Street West, a once run-down property (in a once run-down area) that functions like as cultural hub in Toronto’s hip West Queen West neighborhood. Cycling is the best way to get around Toronto and the Drake wanted to offers its clients the ability to see Toronto like a local. However, they needed a one-size-fits-all approach and a product that was both highly aspirational and accessible.

Our Solution

Our many travels in Holland demonstrated that most men and women ride step-through frames, a cultural sophistication that happens to offer a high degree of comfort, safety, and a one-size-fits all approach. We also knew the Dutch bike is an immediately recognizable object that is inviting, non-confrontational, and joyful to consider. Displayed prominently in the lobby, our bikes entice Drake clients to explore the city in integrated and aspirational style. The high level of clothing protection provide accessibility, the upright position a high degree of safety and the low maintenance a trouble-free lifetime investment.

SHANGRI-LA HOTEL – TORONTO, ON

Fleet Bikes for Hotel Clients

The Initial Problem

The Shangri-La is a five star Hotel in downtown Toronto that wanted to give their clients the ability to engage with Toronto the same way any fashionable Torontonian would - by bicycle! Unlike other fleet bikes programs that tend to make the bike more of a showpiece than the rider, the Shangri-La wanted a subtle brand statement that let their customers feel like an elegant part of the landscape. And, for the sake of provenance, bonus points if the bike could also be from Toronto.

Our Solution

We proudly collaborated with Toronto's Simcoe bikes (a brand we incubated here at Curbside and the finest North American city bike we've laid eyes on) to create an accessible, one-size-fits-all, bike that was as durable as it is sartorial. By using coat-guards we sourced from Europe, we put the Shangri-La branding front and centre while keeping things visually clean and subtle. Today it's a joy to see well-heeled Shangri-La clients scoping out their next meal on their Simcoe bikes.

Culture Link

Bike Host Program

The Initial Problem

Perhaps two things make Toronto truly great. One, it is a city of immigrants. Second, it's a great city to bike in. Culture Link links both together in their Bike Host program, a program that lets adults and teens learn and engage their city with Bike Host mentors. But, they needed a bike that was safe, accessible, comfortable as well as low maintenance and long-lasting.

Our Solution

In the past five years we have sold Bike Host over 150 bikes, most of them Toronto-designed Simcoe bikes that feature low maintenance gears, unisex step through frames, strong rust and chip resistant finishes, and barrier-free clothing protection combined with luxurious upright comfort. We helped custom brand each bike and offer a twice-a-year service contract to keep the bikes working great.

TYKES N TOTS - HAY RIVER, NWT

Food Delivery

The Initial Problem

Tykes N Tots wanted an eco-conscious and fun way to take up to four kids to the park or pick up groceries and supplies while making a great moving billboard.

Our Solution

We're pretty sure this is the furthest north a cargo bike rides in North America, and it was no small feat getting the bike to the Northwest Territories! We sent the bike to NWT using our Ride Out Of The Box service and provided Tykes N Tots with the schematics for their Babboe Curve so they could put together a great branding package. They report great success and love riding their Babboe Curve!

City of Toronto

Fleet Bikes for Employees

The Initial Problem

The City of Toronto has numerous satellite offices within several miles of city hall. However, inter-office travel meant expensive rides in taxi cabs on the taxpayers dollar – especially considering downtown gridlock. A durable, one-size-fits-all approach that led by demonstrating principles and cost-effective best-practices was needed.

Our Solution

We offered the city a fleet of ten Dutch bikes that featured durable rust-resistant frames, full clothing protection, and an upright and safe riding position. The short distances between offices was bridged with a long-term healthy, efficient and progressive solution that cost less than one years taxi receipts.

Waterfront Montessori

Bicycle Schoolbus

The Initial Problem

The Toronto Islands are a (relatively) car-free series of islands with a small population of socially conscious residents. The Montessori’s existing schoolbus was on its last legs and in need of replacement. However, with such a small student body even a small motorized schoolbus didn’t make sense, neither from a cost or capacity perspective – so they approached us.

Our Solution

With a deep rolodex of contacts throughout Europe we approached Holland’s De Redding and inquired about their nine-passenger pedal-powered schoolbus. Using our wide experience with ocean and ground logistics we imported De Reddings KDV model schoolbus which has happily served children of Toronto’s Island since. If you’re after something as unique as a bicycle schoolbus, chances are good we can help!
